Drama: Vigilante Group Arrests Police Officers In Edo

Vigilante group on stop and search duty has arrested two policemen around Oko-Ogba on the Airport road in Benin.

The vigilante members caught the officers with cannabis during the search but the officers said that the drug was recovered from suspects, not under their possession.

Daily Trust reported that the vigilante leader, John Osasere Ohonba, said the arrest was not meant to ridicule the police but to ensure they provide safe environment.

However, Police spokesperson in Edo, SP Bello Kotongs, said that the arrest was meant to harass the officers.
“The cops were unjustly handcuffed, physically brutalized, and this has presently necessitated admission of the men in hospital – having been diagnosed of internal hemorrhage.” he said.
